Evan's Blog

The name "Evan" has various meanings:

- Lord is gracious or God is good;
- anglicized name as John which is the father's English name;
- rock;
- good messenger;
- young warrior;
- it also includes "van" - Vancouver and "e" - the way we communicate with our great family in home town;
- plus, we like its pronunciation!

Our baby Evan was born on the Tree-planting Day. It was a beautiful sunny day in the middle of a very wet season. Lucky.

He was born at 1 day to 37th gestational age, was 53cm long and weighted 2854g.

The pregnancy with Evan was not easy with complications about hypothyroid, serious rash (PUPPP or eczema) and gestational diabetes. Fortunately it ended just fine. His gestational age at birth was, I believe, perfect. For gestational diabetes pregnancy, babies are safer to be born earlier but full term than over due.

The birth was easier than pregnancy with just a little concern. 10 hours after the water had broken, I had 8.5 hours' induced labour and 3 hours' pushing. Epidural was used. Forceps also had to be used to remove the placenta and possibly caused infection at post partum day 9, for which I had to stay in ER for another night alone. But still, it was a natural birth. Not a easy thing at my age, but together we did it.

I am so thankful - God has given us the best gift ever.
